December gave us an unusual job. Pallasite is a meteorite consisting of Olivine (Peridot) and Nickel Iron. A client acquired a piece of this Pallasite and wished to use the stone in a class ring. The challenge of this particular metallic/stone compound is that the crystals of gem are harder in substance than the metal. This created a problem in cutting and polishing of the finished cabochon. Matt took this project on as a personal challenge, but he does not recommend this stone/Pallasite to be used in the future as a cutting project. Included are photos during cutting and of the finished piece. Neat photos though. Will include when I am back at the PC. By CJD.Sign
